Spring Roll 2022 Info and bookings for accommodation open

18 Jul 2022 by Graham Porteous

Hi all,

Hope this finds you well.
Much of the info below is from my earlier email. I’ve just added a bit more detail. I

Key Points:
I’m now taking bookings (payment in full) for Willowdene.
6 days (Monday to Saturday) will be $530
3 Days (Thursday to Saturday) will be $270
Direct deposit to my ac. If you haven’t got the numbers then DM me please.
No variations, no part payments!
As always refunds will be dependent on other bookings and some juggling but not guaranteed.
I’ve added suggested start times for each ride. It’s important I think that we ride as a group. I also get that life happens so if you need to ride at a different time, feel free.
Note there are venues for meals booked for Thursday to Saturday evening. Our group is now quite big so we have limited options. PLEASE NOTE You don’t need to confirm attendance until the day.

Summary
6 days of riding Monday 14 November to Saturday 19 November.

Gravel rides(gravel or mtb bike required, no really)

Monday afternoon Mt Porepunkah. Simple climb to the lookout with a quick diversion through the pine plantation on the way down. 1pm start from Willowdene.

Tuesday morning Tawonga Gap (without the impossible 2nd half from last year!). Up the Tawonga Gap Track to the lookout then either down the sealed road or back by the power line track. Hardest of the 3 gravel rides (even without the near vertical descent!). 8.30 am for pre ride coffee at Sixpence.

Wednesday morning Clear Spot. To the lookout then back down to Bright via Wandi. 8.30 am for pre ride coffee at Sixpence.

All rides around 40-50km

Road rides

Thursday either morning or afternoon to Mt Buffalo. Maybe do both options. There’s a challenge. 8.30 am pre ride coffee at Sixpence for those already in Bright. 1pm from Willowdene for those arriving on Thursday.

Friday morning Mt Beauty/Falls Creek. Lots of distance options here.
I suggest if you’re going to Falls Creek you may like to organise an earlier start time from Willowdene via the group app (I’d suggest 7.30). Otherwise 8.30 pre ride coffee at Sixpence.

Saturday morning Mt Hotham. Coffee stop at the General Store on Hotham or perhaps on to Dinner Plain (it’s doubtful there will be anything open at Dinner Plain but you can get water). Return with the extra climb of Tawonga Gap if youre so inclined (get it). 7.30am sharp departure from Willowdene (no pre ride coffee).

Mini Spring Roll rides

This will be provided a bit closer to the week

Accommodation

As per above Willowdene has been booked for 8 pax Monday – Wednesday (3 units), 13 pax Thursday – Saturday nights (5 units). Cost will be similar to last year. $530 for 6 nights or $270 for 3 nights, no variations.

If youre planning your own digs Id suggest booking sooner rather than later. Can you just let me know if you’re coming please

Hi all,

Hope this finds you well. This is a quick update on the Spring Roll in November following a few recent queries. With Gassy, Leigh Paterson and I heading off to Europe to attempt another Cent Cols Challenge (Classic Alps this time https://www.centcolschallenge.com ) in late August I wont be taking any bookings until I get back in mid September.

Mini Spring Roll rides
Cathy McAdam and I are planning some shorter (and a bit easier) rides. They will be: a shorter version of the above; or part of the above but head off in a different direction at some point; or totally different! More to come on these.

I also anticipate the Catalano clause of a pre ride coffee stop on all morning rides (except Saturday) will be implemented.
